My
daughter is still a teenager. Is she too young for cosmetic surgery?
A
teenager must achieve a certain degree of physical maturity before
undergoing plastic surgery. For example, rhinoplasty is not performed
until 16 years of age in females and 17 years of age in males.

What
is lip augmentation?
Gortex,
collagen, fat and hyaluronic acid gel are being used to give fuller
and more sensual lips. The results can be either temporary or permanent
depending on the material used.
back
My
chin is too small. Can you do something about it?
An
implant can be inserted through a tiny incision or the chin can
be advanced and wired into place depending upon the amount of augmentation
needed.
back
I
recently lost a lot of weight and my underarms are sagging. Can
liposuction help?
No,
not in this particular case. What you need is arm lifting, which
requires the excision of the excess skin and fat. The resultant
scar is usually hidden in the inner aspect of the upper arm.
back
I
have a lot of small wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead.
I would like to get rid of them but I cannot afford any down time?
Botox
injections temporarily weaken the facial muscles and causes relaxation
of the skin’s surface and " disappearance" of the wrinkles.
Their effect is not permanent. It lasts between three to six months.
Injectable
fillers can also be used (collagen, fat, Hyaluronic acid gel). They
fill the problem area to reduce the severity of the defect. Their
effect is temporary.
back
My
friend underwent what she calls a thigh lift. Does such an operation
exist?
Yes.
A thigh lift is done when the skin of the inner or outer thighs
as well as that of the buttocks sags. The skin is lifted and the
excess excised. Some scars remain either in the inner thighs or
in the lower back.
back
What
is microsurgery?
Microsurgery
is used in operations where veins, arteries and nerves are hooked
up together using the microscope. These operations include limb
reattachment or reconstructive procedures where a piece of tissue
is transferred from one area to another to fill a defect.
back
What
does burn surgery mean?
Burn
surgery includes the acute care of the burn patients when the burned
skin is removed and skin grafting is performed as well as the long
term reconstructive procedures when burn scars are revised and deformities
are corrected.

I
have excess hair over the lips and chin. What can be done about
it?
Hair
removal using the intense pulsed light technology is effective in
removing unwanted hair from all areas of the body. It should be
clear from the outset that several sessions are needed.
Pigmented lesions (age spots, freckles, melasma), hemangiomas, tiny
blood vessels of the face, spider veins as well as tatoos to name
a few can be removed using this type of technology.
If
done correctly by qualified professionals, the side effects should
be minimal to none.
back
What
type of anesthesia is usually used for the plastic surgery operations?
Local,
intravenous sedation or general anesthesia can be used to perform
these operations. The choice of one of those modalities will be
discussed between you, your surgeon and your anesthesiologist.
back
Can
men have cosmetic surgery?
Men,
like women, are learning that the way they look can impact their
life and career and more and more of them are turning to cosmetic
surgery.
back
What
does it mean when a surgeon is certified by the American Board of
